RIDE OUT OF THE PAST
“Don’t patronize me, dammit! I mean it! You ride out of here and you ride out of my life forever. Our marriage will be over!”
Her voice broke and tears flowed as she covered her face with her hands.
He leaned down and kissed the top of her head.
“Be back before you know it, Sue. On the way, I’ll stop by Luke Friendly’s and ask Martha to look in on you. I’ll only be gone a week or a couple days longer.”
She lifted her tear-stained face as he headed for the door.
“You don’t think I mean it, do you?”
“I know you mean it. But when you calm down and think it over, you’ll see it’s the wrong move. I’ll come back to you, Sue.”
As he went out, she raised her voice and said;
“When you come back, all you’ll find is an empty house!”
