Guess it’s no crime to stop
a stage to talk to a pretty woman!
THE GILA BUNCH
“Craig,” she said, “let’s talk.”
“Go to hell.”
“Craig, we haven’t had a chance to talk ever since that man came to McNeal. Don’t do it — don’t set him against Billy.”
Summers looked at her bleakly.
“Pleadin’ for your lover now, is that it?”
“Billy’s not my lover—”
“That was a mistake. It won’t happen again. Craig, send that man-killer away and I swear to you that I will never speak to Billy Brocius again.”
“Don’t you fret, ’cause I’m makin’ sure that you don’t. A wife-stealer deserves all he gets.” He favored her with a burning look, then added, “Even for a shop-soiled witch like you.”
